Women in Innovation is a community for women with Big Ideas – ideas that transform the way we live and work. What’s your Big Idea? What is your Big Vision? There is no shame in thinking big and boldly here. Women who gain support and success through our coaching, consulting and mentoring play big and pay it forward in the WIN community. WIN is a “Pay it Forward Platform” – when one of us learns, everyone benefits.
Our growing global community connects online in the social media and in our events. Our signature event, Women in Innovation Summit convenes women from all around the world every other year – on November 20th 2014 we gathered for Converge@Seattle Pacific Innovation Summit 2014 in partnership with PNWER, and sponsors like Alaska Airlines and Washington Business Alliance. Reports, photos and videos are being added on the Converge website as they come available.
Innovation is more than an idea, though. We define it as “a great idea put into practical use, shared, scaled and sustained to transform the ways we live and work“. Do you share your creative, life enhancing ideas? Are you putting them into use and implementing them? Are you actively collaborating to scale your ideas? Are you a dreamer or an innovator?
We coordinate events and workshops, moderate conversations and provide consulting and coaching on topics related to women and innovation. With our mentoring, coaching, connections and guidance women who dare to dream big get the support they need to succeed. Inquire how we can help you: contact@womenininnovation.org.
We hope you got the sense of the spirit of WINS 2012 via this video – it’s about women in business “convening – connecting – creating”. Don’t let your fears stop you from your bold dreams. This is your time! Watch the video and share the spirit!
In 2012 with nearly one hundred committed individuals, presenters, administrators, designers, strategists, volunteers, supporters, partners and 240 participants Women in Innovation Summit 2012 became one of the most remarkable success stories of the year. The summit inspired women to examine their capacities and capabilities for innovation and ignited them to take action locally and globally. We began the “No Brain Left Behind” campaign!
On September 22nd, 2012, the first ever Women in Innovation Summit (WINS) was held at the Seattle Center, led by the founder Kristiina Hiukka. This new concept for gathering passionate women in business who innovate or lead innovation in non profit and for profit environments to share, collaborate, and innovate to solve our world’s persistent challenges in the areas of Economy, Education and Ecology. It started as a seed of an idea in 2011 and grew into a conference involving almost 100 volunteers and total of 240 participants applying their skills to create the first ever conference of its kind.
Ideas were not only shared but catalyzed with follow-on actions. Since the conference, a number of actions have taken off including community sharing of socially conscious purchasing choices through the hashtag #pursepower. The concept for the conference was to hear from inspiring leaders, then come together in working groups to participate in shared innovation, developing tangible proposals and commitments from participants to take the ideas forward that would be most likely to bring about lasting change. More about the initiatives here.
Not only business women attended, but some very wise and smart men as well. This is what senator Jim Kastama had to say about the summit: “I walked away from this event truly inspired. The feeling of collaboration was palpable and aided by seasoned business leaders who spoke candidly of their experiences. If you’re an entrepreneur, or want to be an entrepreneur, this is the event to attend.”
